Bureau of Singularity
The Bureau of Singularity was an organisation which sought to regulate and oversee the Multiverse.
Description
The Bureau took action to correct what it perceived as dimensional anomalies, having the means to erase individuals from Time if they felt that their existence conflicted with established history. The Bureau also monitored and punished offences such as “interdimensional loitering”. (COMIC: Life… in the Heart of the City) They had their headquarters in a gigantic office block at the Nexus of Realities, where they made recordings of an infinity of realities, which they stored as VHS tapes. (COMIC: Singularity War)
Human agents of the Bureau dressed as conventional “men in black”, with black business suits and sunglasses. The Bureau also employed anthropomorphic crocodiles (who wore similar suits, but no sunglasses) and intelligent robots disguised as watertowers. (COMIC: Life… in the Heart of the City) The mysterious Director of the Bureau was humanoid and also wore a black business suit, but had an entirely featureless, faceless head. (COMIC: Singularity War)
The Bureau may have had ties to the Cosmic Order of Reality Z-25 31-H, who were displeased when they learned that heroes from that universe's Earth had attacked the Bureau. (COMIC: Epilogue To The Epilogue)
History
Targeting the Terrific Two
After coming to the conclusion that the survival of Reality Z-25 31-H's Terrific Two (Kelly and Jenkins) beyond their adventure in space was a temporal anomaly, the Bureau of Singularity sent several dozen agents to their apartment with orders to arrest the two then erase them from Time. However, a quarrel broke out between the leaders of the operation about precisely what paragraph the Two were being arrested under. Escaping in the confusion, the Two escaped other agents of the Bureau in a dash through New York City and finally found refuge at an amateur performance art venue whose chaotic, paradoxical nature confused the Bureau's sensors, rendering the Two undetectable. The Singularity War
Growing tired of hiding, Kelly and Jenkins decided to take the fight to the Bureau. They began to corner isolated agents of the Bureau to fight them, ultimately managing to follow one back to one of the camouflaged portals to the Nexus of Realities which the Bureau maintained in Reality Z-25 31-H. After capturing the portal, they brought it back to Professor Madison, who repaired it and helped put together a team of heroes to take the fight to the Bureau's headquarters. In the end, Kelly, Jenkins, Madison, Rodney, Terry Tornado and Mysto the Space-Wizard ended up going through the Portal, while a robot duplicate of Madison remained behind to guard the Portal from interference in Reality Z-25 31-H itself. These fears were not unfounded, with a large number of agents of the Bureau soon converging on the Fortress of Evening, but the robot proved up to the task of fighting them off.
Meanwhile, the Reality Z-25 31-H heroes managed to breach the outer walls of the Bureau's headquarters. Turning invisible (in Madison's case, thanks to Mysto's magic), Jenkins and Madison went off to sneak into the office of the Director of Singularity, while the rest provided a distraction by starting a fight with the Bureau's agents on the ground floor. After a little while, Jenkins and Madison revealed themselves to the Director and tricked him into signing a binding contract promising that the Bureau would no longer try to correct Reality Z-25 31-H. Jenkins and Madison returned to the lower floors to find their comrades largely losing the fight, albeit having done significant damage to the Bureau's forces, and picked them up before returning to their home reality.
