Wellsian
The Wellsians, or Martians were a species of sapient, telepathic, vampire-like octopi who existed in several universes. In some, they were a fictional creation and the subject of War of the Worlds, whereas in others they were quite real.

One universe's very real version of these Martians had chalk-white skin, red eyes, and wide, toothy mouths. They were known as the Wellsians due to their own name for Mars being Wellsia. Wellsia was a “dying” world, facing droughts and other disasters. The Wellsians grew jealous of the lush, watery neighbouring planet Earth, and decided to invade it. After discarding multiple other, even more ridiculous ideas, the Martian Empire Science Department settled on the idea of shooting the Wellsian colonists at the Earth using a Really Bloody Big Cannon.
There, finding that the Earth's gravity prevented them from moving about on their own, they hastily constructed Tripod Walking-Machines, “with built-in Heat Rays, of course”, and began wreaking havoc. “Just as they were finishing up the destruction of England”, they began to feel hungry, and, having been unable to bring their “blood-cattle” from home, began to drain humans for blood. This proved a mistake, as the Wellsians had failed to anticipate that human blood was contaminated with a variety of pathogens; all diseases were long-extinct on their own planet. Most of the army was wiped out, and the last survivors collected in one Tripod which they modified into a space-ship, flying to the nearest planet, Venus. There, they crashed, to be found by the Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids many years later. At some point, a video Cupid Fact File detailing the invasion had been recorded in the Cupid Archives. Mandragora's Great Experiment

The seven Wellsians who survived the crash went into hibernation while their craft became buried under many feet of Venusian sand. Eventually, nearly a century later, a base called Morningstar 1 was built by the Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids over the exact spot of the crash. The Wellsians, in their sleep, telepathically felt the new presences, but did not wake yet. Over time, Governor-105 grew overconfident and tyrannical, beginning to send unauthorised missions to the 97th Cosmos's Earth and ignoring requests for reports from the Cupid Parliament. Having unearthed the Tripod by accident while trying to dig up a new pool, Mandragora-257, who had been banished to Morningstar after one of his experiments went wrong in the Homeworld, engaged in a “Great Experiment” to revive the intact, but hibernating Wellsians he had extracted from the wreckage. He promised the Governor that the resurrected aliens, who would be able to rebuild their Heat Rays, would allow him to rebel against the Crew once and for all, conquer the Earth, and use it as a launching point for an all-out campaign across the Multiverse.
However, the Wellsians were playing the Cupids for their own ends. After finding that the Governor had locked the three Fog Ships kept on retainer in the base, they sent a psychic distress call to the Cupid Homeworld to lure a new vehicle: the Department of Problem-Solving's Ship. The Problem-Solvers uncovered Mandragora's plans, but were unable to stop things from violently coming to a head, with one Wellsian killing Governor-105 point-blank and the other trying to shoot Mandragora. Because Mandragora was carrying an explosive chemical on his person at the time, this caused an explosion which destroyed the base, killing that Wellsian and one other, as well as discorporating Mandragora. The other Cupids were unharmed, but soon discovered that the five remaining Wellsians had long since taken advantage of the distraction to make their escape. When reports from Colony World #2 that the Wellsians had returned reached the Cupid Homeworld, the Cupid Parliament made an official statement to the Crew, claiming that it was “nothing to worry about”. However, other parties within the Crew decided to republicise the video Fact File to prepare Cupids for the potential threat. Wandering
The newly-interdimensional Wellsians first ended up at the Interdimensional Tavern, and, from there, at the Interdimensional Black Market (PROSE: The Grand Multiverse Hotel) where one of them bid on Tracker-764 at the Queen of the Black Market's auction, unsuccessfully. (PROSE: Misadventures in the Interdimensional Black Market) Their leader, the Strategist Earl Radluhac ag-Wampyr, sent the Viscount Forga sog-Forgos to Hilbert's to acquire a new planet, and, after that mission's success, the Wellsians settled on the planet Thrash, which they renamed “New Wellsia”. The New Wellsian Empire
The Wellsians were subsequently involved in the quest for the Frost King's treasure.
By December 2020, the Wellsians were well on their way to taking control of New Wellsia, having founded a New Wellsian Empire. However, there was still only five of them, not counting the Emperor Karshassinwellshkhan III, who the surviving five speculated speculated might still be alive on the original Wellsian homeworld, but was no longer recognised as having authority over them, with Radluhac preparing to crown himself the new Emperor. The Wellsians enslaved and oppressed the Goblins, their new planet's actual native species. (PROSE: The Time of the Toymaker)
The Wellsians were among the groups who bid for the venom of the Wyrm of Loki when the Prime Universe's Sigyn decided to auction it off. Forga sog-Forgos was the one sent to Loki's cavern to actually negotiate, being magically summoned there by Sigyn along with many other biddgers. Like the other bidders, Forga dissipated like smoke, sent back to his dimension, after Tero Trollgarsson rendered the auction moot by drinking all the venom, leading Sigyn to interrupt the spell. 1938 movie
In one dimension, the invasion of Earth by the Martians, using Tripods, was depicted in a movie called War of the Worlds which was played in 1938 at the Benton Cinema in Chicago, where a version of Jenny Everywhere saw part of it while in the middle of an adventure. (COMIC: Miss Adventure)
