In Reality Z-25 31-H, a device taking the form of a helmet with a large trunk or proboscis was created by Professor Madison for Captain Evening in response to Doctor Brain and his daughter beginning to use interdimensional portals in their schemes against the Captain.
The device could detect the formation of interdimensional portals, however brief, and trace their location. Among other thing, it picked up the Legion of Light's summoning of the demon Red Vicious using their Magic Sword. (COMIC: Enter–the Legion of Light!)
It also more generally responded to magical activity. It once detected Jesse Brain's mundane use of spellcasting to help her father clean his kitchen, although no one was watching the device at the time. (PROSE: In Dr. Brain's Kitchen)
Jenny later wore it at the Captain's request while investigating the site of one of the “reverse robberies” while the Odds were investigating the strange anti-crime spree. It allowed her to detect residue “cosmic particles”, characteristic of Armagedda's power, and which she was able to use to shift back to Armagedda's current location, taking the other Odds along with her. The Odds took the device with them during their trip to England. Merv the Griffin ended up using it to pinpoint the source of a mysterious magical signature he had felt, which turned out to be the Blue Knight, a knight wearing magical armour that made him immortal, who had been trapped under a monolith since the days of King Arthur.
