Hakhe

From Jenny Everywhere Wiki

Hakhe was a shifter similar to, and a friend of, Jenny Everywhere. Her powers were rooted in a mysterious ability to “refract reality”.

Description

Physical appearance

Like Jenny, Hakhe ordinarily wore a red scarf, the only item of clothing she had in common with Jenny Everywhere and Jenny Anywhere. (PROSE: The Disappearance of Jenny Everywhere)

Personality

Hakhe was more thoughtful than the impulsive and sometimes callous Jenny Anywhere. She considered Jenny Everywhere a close friend of hers, but unlike Anywhere, did not seem to take her as a model specifically, or to need her validation on an emotional level. (PROSE: The Disappearance of Jenny Everywhere)

Powers & abilities

Hakhe had the ability to “refract reality”. With concentration, she could use this to shift to whatever reality she wished to visit. She could also exploit her powers in other ways, such as creating illusory “dimensional projections” of herself in the middle of fights to serve as distractions. (PROSE: The Disappearance of Jenny Everywhere)

Biography

Looking for Jenny

When Jenny Everywhere disappeared across the Multiverse, one version of Hakhe met up with a Jenny Anywhere to find her. Trying to rein in Anywhere's fits of despair and anger, she suggested that they focus on trying to find a way to shift into the Infinite to see if any Jennies remained there. After meeting up with a Jenny Somewhere, a Laura Drake and the crew of the Wilson, they managed to enter the Infinite, but found it empty. Retreating to one of Jenny Everywhere's old haunts to mourn her, they instead ended up defeating the Fallen One on her behalf when it attacked the city. After the brunt of the battle was over, Jenny returned to the Multiverse, explaining herself to her friends, and they partied together in celebration both of Jenny's return and of their victory. (PROSE: The Disappearance of Jenny Everywhere)

Apinya Dang-Malee

“Apinya Dang-Malee” was one of the students in physics engineering at the futuristic Neptunian Orbital University in one universe, residing in dorm four. When she first met Jenny Everywhere, Laura Drake considered Apinya a better student and scientist than her, citing how the other girl had “an actual working prototype of a perception refractor”. Behind the scenes

Genesis

Hakhe was unveiled by Ave Messer in December 2016 on the Open Source Super-Heroes Wiki, under a similar open-source license to Jenny Everywhere's.[1] The public-domain blurb written by Messer to introduce the character included many details which have yet to be translated into narrative media, including her birth name, Apinya Prisum-Ter (meaning "magical power" — Apinya, "red" — Dang, "flower" — Malee, "prism" — Prisum, "roam" — Ter).

An alien race learned of the existance of Jenny Everywhere and set out to capture her and use her powers for their own ends. However, they only had a decent idea of where she was and knew she often wore a scarf and/or goggles. Meanwhile, Apinya Prisum-Ter was preparing to go out for the night and, fatefully, wore a scarf. It turns out Jenny was nearby when the aliens saw Apinya and captured her, bringing her aboard their ship and bypassing their real target. The stress of the abduction caused Apinya's latent power to assert itself to help her, and she used it to escape. She now finds herself as an adventurer on different worlds, finding a kinship with the Everywheres in a way, and taking her outfit for that fateful night as her sort of costume.
Apinya has the power to refract reality (hence her code name of Hakhe, which is Thai for "refract"), causing her to primarily cause visual illusions, but she can also use this to cause minor shifts in the environment around her and, if concentrated, travel between realities.
Ave Messer

The character was illustrated using a public domain picture of a woman in a red dress and scarf. She took five years to make her debut in a full story, in the comic Going Everywhere and Nowhere, itself the work of Ave Messer. The 2021 Jenny Everywhere Day short story The Disappearance of Jenny Everywhere marked her first appearance in a work by someone other than her creator.
