Neptunian Orbital University

In one universe, the Neptunian Orbital University was a prestigious university housed in a high-tech space station orbiting Neptune.

Like most things at that point in the Solar System's history, it was controlled by the Altern Corporation. Laura Drake studied “physics engineering” there, alongside Neeta and Apinya Dang-Malee, while Jenny Everywhere studied history.

The station was home to a large library, shaped like an antenna to better collect the ambient energy while the other parts of the station were domed. Instead of having an atmosphere, outdoors areas of the University were walkable thanks to the compulsory wearing of thermal suits and oxygen field generators; transport pods were also available to more comfortably travel long distances. The dorm buildings were located at a small remove from the actual teaching areas and laboratories. Holo-displays were a common sight. (PROSE: Extradimensional Experiments)

Behind the scenes

The University was inspired by the earlier Lunar College of Selene seen in Bacterial Lunarversity, as made clearer by the alternative title to Extradimensional Experiments, “Photonic Neptuniversity”.
