Jormungandir

Jormungandir
From Jenny Everywhere Wiki

Jormungandir or Jörmungandir, also known as the World-Serpent, and nicknamed Jorgy by Sigyn, was a giant sea serpent. He was one of the monstrous sons of the Norse God, Loki. There was some debate about whether he should be considered a Wyrm, although he had the powers of one.

Description

Physical appearance

The version of Jormungandir from the Prime Universe was a “building-sized” serpent with dark red scales and a pointed muzzle. His eyes were the same glowing yellow as his father's and his brother Fenrir's, with slitted green pupils. His body was impossibly long, allowing him to encircle the whole Earth. Personality

The Prime Universe version of Jormungandir was devoted to his father Loki, and often schemed to release him early, heedless of the many good reasons why Loki needed to remain bound until Ragnarok. Proud of his nature as a unique, divine being, Jormungandir was often disdainful and “high-handed” (as it were) in his dealings with magical beings he perceived as lesser than him. Powers & abilities

Jormungandir had the ability to burrow through stone and magma if need be, though he usually dwelled underwater. His hide was more or less impenetrable. (PROSE: The Winter Quests)

Biography

In the Prime Universe

A version of Jormungandir existed in the Prime Universe. Although he could leave it unattended for short bursts of time, his biting his own tail to keep the Earth circled by his length actually held it together in some fashion, such that if he were to fail for too long in his duties, this would cause the end of the world.

In December 2021, as he did every winter, he left his post encircling the Earth to burrow into the World Below and visit his father Loki. On the way, he met Juliet-178, Pythagoras-858 and Tero Trollgarsson, who had been sent on a quest by a goddess who was, unbeknownst to all but Pythe, Sigyn, Jormungandir's own stepmother, to slay the Wyrm of Loki. However, after a fruitless conversation trying to ascertain whether Jormungandir considered himself to be a “seprent” or a “wyrm”, Trollgarsson came to the erroneous conclusion that Jormungandir himself was their target, and charged at him. Due to Jormungandir's impenetrable hide, this had little effect, and neither did his missed attempt to throw a rock at one of the serpent's eyes.

Their battle was prevented from going any further by the appearance of CS-NA. Recognising that, despite the robot's belief that he had only shifted there using randomised coordinates, the coincidence was too great, he came to the conclusion, with the Cupids' help, that the digital throw of dice must have been remotely altered by Loki himself to get CS-NA there at the right time. After convincing the serpent not to harm Cesse (who he temporarily thought might be another candidate for the “Spider” of the prophecy, and thus best gotten out of the way despite the Cupids' theory), Pythe and Juliet realise that the Wyrm they must actually defeat could only be the venom-dripping serpent affixed above Loki's prison to prevent him from escaping.

Realising that the fulfillment of the Cupids' mission might be to his father's benefit, Jormungandir agreed to lead them, Trollgarsson and Cesse to the chamber where Loki was imprisoned. On the fairly long way there, they came across his brother Fenrir, who realised a scheme to free Loki was afoot and tried to stop it, but he ended up getting knocked out by a boulder, allowing the group to proceed.
