The Wellsians, or Martians were a species of sapient, telepathic octopi who existed in several universes. In some, they were a fictional creation and the subject of War of the Worlds, whereas in others they were quite real.
History
1938 movie
In one dimension, an invasion of Earth by the Martians, using Tripods, was depicted in a movie called War of the Worlds which was played in 1938 at the Benton Cinema in Chicago, where a version of Jenny Everywhere saw part of it while in the middle of an adventure. (COMIC: Miss Adventure)
Enemies of the Cupids
One universe's very real version of these Martians, known as Wellsians, had chalk-white skin, red eyes, and wide, toothy mouths.
After losing their original planet, a small number of surviving Wellsians were encountered by Pythagoras-858 on the planet Venus in a CCCC base called Morningstar 1. Despite Pythe trying to stop them, they escaped, acquiring dimensional travel. They first ended up at the Interdimensional Tavern, and, from there, at the Interdimensional Black Market. Their leader, the Strategist Earl Radluhac ag-Wampyr, sent the Viscount Forga sog-Forgos to Hilbert's to acquire a new planet, and, after that mission's success, the Wellsians settled on the planet Thrash, which they renamed “New Wellsia”. (PROSE: The Grand Multiverse Hotel) The Wellsians were subsequently involved in the quest for the Frost King's treasure.
By December 2020, the Wellsians were well on their way to taking control of New Wellsia, having founded a New Wellsian Empire. However, there was still only five of them, not counting the Emperor Karshassinwellshkhan III, who the surviving five speculated speculated might still be alive on the original Wellsian homeworld, but was no longer recognised as having authority over them, with Radluhac preparing to crown himself the new Emperor. The Wellsians enslaved and oppressed the Goblins, their new planet's actual native species. (PROSE: The Time of the Toymaker)
The Wellsians were among the groups who bid for the venom of the Wyrm of Loki when the Prime Universe's Sigyn decided to auction it off. Forga sog-Fogos was the one sent to Loki's cavern to actually negotiate, being magically summoned there by Sigyn along with many other biddgers. Like the other bidders, Forga dissipated like smoke, sent back to his dimension, after Tero Trollgarsson rendered the auction moot by drinking all the venom, leading Sigyn to interrupt the spell.
