Northern Cardinal

In the 925th Universe, where the Witches of the North, South and so on were known as “Cardinal Witches”, Gayelette was the Northern Cardinal of Oz towards the end of Monarch Pastoria's reign. Behind the scenes

Although “Cardinal” is also a real title and occupation, the implication is that Gayelette — a magic user from the North of Oz in the original books — was, in fact, the (presumably Good) Witch of the North at one point in Ozite history, and that “Northern Cardinal” is a more formal rendition of the same title.
