In at least one universe, Randolph Carter was an individual whom the villainous Outer God Nyarlathotep described as an “old friend”, probably euphemistically. In that reality, his descendants Dwain Carter and Karolyn Carter carried on his legacy of opposing Nyarlathotep's plans into the 21st century, with the backing of Yog-Sothoth.
