Strach, the Abstract of Terrror, was one of the Abstracts.
Description
Physical appearance
Strach, when making no attempt to disguise himself, appeared as a hunched man with blue skin. He was bald, but did have eyebrows and a goatee, both midnight blue; his eyes were pinpricks of glowing crimson. He wore elaborate regalia including a huge operatic collar that was emblazoned with his Abstract sigil. However, among Strach's powers was the ability to take other frightening shapes at will, winking from one guise to the next in an instant. (COMIC: Jenny Everywhere in the House of Terror)
Personality
Strach was a fairly social individual by Abstract standards, as evidenced by his hosting a Halloween party at D'Ismay Mansion every year. He did not much care for mortals, however, being habituated to them only forcing him to reveal himself to get the traditional boon from him. (COMIC: Jenny Everywhere in the House of Terror)
Powers and abilities
Strach had the ability to transform his appearance instantly, as well as to revoke any glamours worn by others in his presence. However, if a mortal recognised him and forced him to shed his current disguise three times over, he would be bound to reveal his true appearance and give them a boon if they asked for it. (COMIC: Jenny Everywhere in the House of Terror)
Biography
At some point, Strach took up residence in D'Ismay Mansion, the “most haunted house in the world”. Every year, he held a Halloween party there, attended by a large crowd of spirits and demons. He also invited other Abstracts, such as the Illumination. One year, Lit was unable to attend and sent Jenny Everywhere to present apologies to Strach on his behalf. Strach, not realising Jenny was there on family business, first appeared to her as a blue yeti; when she dismissed this as a disguise, he subsequently posed as Dracula, Death and Lon Chaney before reluctantly reverting to his true appearance. However, instead of asking for a boon, Jenny surprised him by presenting Lit's “happy Halloween” wishes. (COMIC: Jenny Everywhere in the House of Terror)
Behind the scenes
“Strach” is the Polish term for “fear”.
