Orks were sentient, flying creatures known to at least one universe's version of the Land of Oz. They were native to another magic land, Orkland, which was very distant from Oz itself, but presumably also part of the continent of Nonestica.
“The Orks” helped the Scarecrow, Trot, Cap'n Bill and Button-Bright defeat the witch Blinkie in Jinxland during the Scarecrow's first encounter with Blinkie. Years later, by the time of Blinkie's return, a singular Ork, Flipper, had apparently taken up residence in Oz and was among the many friends called to the Emerald Palace by Ozma to help investigate the theft of the Magic Belt, Magic Picture and Great Book of Records. After it was found that the thieves (actually Blinkie's imp servants) had also disassembled Ozma's Red Wagon, someone suggested that Flipper could carry everyone on his back, but he declined. (PROSE: The Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids in Oz)
Behind the scenes
Bearing no relation to Tolkien-style “Orcs”, L. Frank Baum's “Orks” debuted in 1915's The Scarecrow of Oz, meaning they are now in the public domain. They are described as quadrupeds with parrot-like heads, a tail shaped like a propellor, and a single crest of feathers on their heads.
