In one universe, a photon-freezer was a cutting-edge device meant to “capture a wave of light in time” to allow for “perfect-accuracy astronomical snapshots”.
As a physics engineering major at the Neptunian Orbital University, Laura Drake attempted to create a photon-freezer. However, her prototypes kept somehow converting the light's energy into soap bubbles instead, much to her frustration. However, with Jenny Everywhere's encouragement, she was eventually able to use this version of the device to defeat the Creeping Shadow, modifying it to affect magic instead of light.
