In the 1970s in the 925th Universe, the untrustworthy wizard Artemas H. Whipple used a school as a front to train child soldiers to fight “the Infernal Forces of Carcosa”. (PROSE: Good Crieff: The Tribulations of the Scottish Division (2024 reedit)) Another account of the same events stated that the object of Whipple's antagonism was “the Yellow King”. Behind the scenes
The ancient, mysterious city of Carcosa was first featured in Ambrose Bierce's 1886 short story An Inhabitant of Carcosa, before becoming central to Robert W. Chambers's anthology of linked “weird tales”, The King in Yellow (with the titular entity being suggested to reign over Carcosa, which is the subject of the in-universe play The King in Yellow). This material would go on to be integrated into the Lovecraftian mythos, with the most common interpretation being that the King in Yellow is a manifestation of the n Elder God also known as “Hastur”.
