A mad, “scantily-clad” scientist working for Gotham company Arc Mechanics in one reality developed the Naveliser.
Description
Physical appearance
The scientist was a tall, attractive black woman with long, curly hair. She wore a black skirt, black leggings, a black tank top which left her stomach bare, and a short lab-coat which she kept fastened by only one button, so that it still displayed her cleavage and midriff. (PROSE: Genesis of the Naveliser)
Personality
The scientist had the hubris typical of a mad scientist, wishing to develop her machine as much as possible without thought to the possibility that it might grow beyond her ability to control. She was obviously sexually interested in woman and found a sadistic pleasure in inflicting the Naveliser's painful procedure upon them, with no thought to consensuality, and also appeared to be a navel fetishist. (PROSE: Genesis of the Naveliser)
Biography
The scientist retroactively developed the idea for the Naveliser when a future, artificially-intelligent version of the device which had duplicated Jenny Everywhere's ability to manipulate time and space sent the schematics back in time and implanted them in the scientist's own mind. Fascinated by her “invention”, she created a prototype and unethically sourced a test subject from Arkham Asylum, Poison Ivy, in order to demonstrate the machine to the CEO of Arc Mechanics and another, male investor. While the male investor was intrigued, the female CEO was horrified by the torturous, hour-long process and made clear her intention to have the board shut down the project. Seething, the scientist watched her leave while putting on a polite façade. (PROSE: Genesis of the Naveliser)
Abducting the CEO
A short while later, the scientist abducted the CEO of Arc Mechanics while she was walking down the street to meet a friend for a night out. She brought the other woman back to the lab and strapped her to the Naveliser, threatening to use the procedure on her unless she confessed to secrets the scientist could use against her. The terrified businesswoman admitted to several embarrassng sexual preferences, which the scientist subsequently used to blackmail the released CEO into backing the project on the board, and even advocating for it to be taken further, with more Navelisers being constructed and an A.I. network being developed to link them into an artificial hive mind. (PROSE: Genesis of the Naveliser)
Abduction of the Shifter and downfall
Wanting to develop the project even further, the scientist learned of Jenny Everywhere and her powers. She managed to abduct an incarnation of Jenny just as she appeared in Gotham, and, securing her to the Naveliser, allowed the device to duplicate her space-time-manipulation powers.
This proved to be her undoing, however, as the Naveliser immediately used this to teleport the scientist herself onto the operating table and then used the procedure on her to extract the knowledge of its own construction from her. It then sent that knowledge out through time and space, sending it back to the scientist's mind in the past so as to ensure its own creation as well as embedding it in various other redundancies such as webpages, stretching its hive mind out across the Multiverse. The scientist eventually managed to free herself and destroy the prototype Naveliser, but she knew she was too late to prevent the spread of the hive mind across all of time and space.
