The Department of Discipline was the department of the Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids which handled affairs of discipline internal to the Crew. Its Prefect was Penalty-534.

Nature

It was headed by Judicator-337, (PROSE: The Case Against Conspiracy) and mostly made up of Discipline Cupids younger than Mark IIs. (PROSE: The Labors of Juliet)

After she broke the Department of Quasireligious Obsequiousness's taboo on creating new Clockwork Cherubs in spectacular fashion, accidentally leading to the creation of over one thousand duplicates of herself, the Department of Discipline temporarily exiled Juliet from the Homeworld, giving her a large quota of life-forms to romanticise by herself before her Fog Ship would let her return home. (PROSE: The Labors of Juliet)

Taskmaster-523 threatened Larrikin-1029 and Pessimist-242 with reporting them to the Department of Discipline if they refused to go on a mission together as they had been told to do. Later, Larrikin reflected that the Cupid Parliament would likely send him and Pessimist to the Department of Discipline if they allowed Madame Tarsa to learn how to create Clockwork Cherubs. (PROSE: The Toymaker's Labyrinth)

After witnessing the latest of his improbable, accusatory conspiracy theories, the Copper-Colored Council of Elders discussed reporting Conspiracy-1263 to the Department of Discipline. (PROSE: The Cupid Suggestion Box)

After returning from his assignment to Oz without his Fog Ship, Bow or Arrows, Acquaintanceship-982 was reprimanded by Penalty-534, who immediately sent him on another, punitive assignment to Wonderland. (PROSE: The Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids in Oz)

On the day of the faceless magician incident, the Cupid Parliament had been engaged for nine days in a protracted debate about whose responsibility it was to replace the ink in Stenographer-123's typewriter when it ran out. Bibliophile-962 argued that it was up to the Department of Discipline given that Stenographer typed up the logs of the Department of Discipline's hearings, to the outrage of Penalty-534, who threatened to assign Bibliophile to punitive romanticisation mission of “a thousand souls somewhere”. Just as it was about to descend into sheer fisticuffs, the argument finally ended when the destruction of the typewriter itself by the magic rabbits rendered it moot. (PROSE: Magic Trick)
