It does not completely adhere to our standards for articles, for example (for a story page) by having an incomplete cast list or (for an in-universe page) not citing its sources properly. |
Up the River is a story in the Kaza’s Mate, Gwenna web comic.
Plot
in progress
Kaza, Gwenna, and Smedley observe Ernie MacGuffin, a diamond smuggler, meet with van Horn.
On the Jenny Everywhere Day bonus page they are leaving a fancy restaurant when Jenny Anywhere arrives, driving her flying car through a portal in mid-air. With her is Jenny Everywhere and Lady Catherine; the Jennies are just passing through this reality to drop her off in The Naked Jungle. They promise to look her up again the next time they have trouble in Shelterville and fly away.
Worldbuilding
Jenny Everywhere
- This Jenny appears to be the default Jenny of Jay Epps's works, show elsewhere to be the same incarnation as that seen in The Cosmic Beholder.
Jenny Anywhere
- Jenny Anywhere has visited the Naked Jungle on other occasions, such as when she asked Gwenna to help her with a problem in another universe. (COMIC: Situation on Earth-N)
Universes
- This story takes place in the universe of Kaza's Mate, Gwenna.
Continuity
- Jenny appears to be the default Jenny of Jay Epps's works, shown elsewhere to be the same incarnation as that seen in The Cosmic Beholder.
- The web comic had one-page Jenny Everywhere Day cameos in 2014, with COMIC: Meanwhile…, and again in 2016 with a bonus page for COMIC: Situation on Earth-N.
- Jenny Anywhere's car, and Shelterville, were earlier seen in COMIC: Crisis Down the Yellow Brick Road.
Behind the scenes
The supporting characters of Duke and Sammy, seen as entertainers at the club, are based on the real comedy duo of Duke Mitchell and Sammy Petrillo, who in turn based their act off of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis; they even appeared in the 1952 B-movie Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla. Surprisingly, the comic characters get through their adventure in the Naked Jungle without encountering any gorillas.
