Altern Corporation

The Altern Corporation was a scientific-innovation conglomerate which existed in multiple universes. Laura Drake was often associated with them.

They were “the world’s leading scientific innovators” in one universe. After they'd both graduated, Jenny Everywhere helped her best friend Laura Drake get a job at Altern. She later “borrowed” some technical components from the Corporation to complete the machine she used to travel beyond her universe in search of Jenny following her mysterious disappearance. In another universe, they existed at a later point in Earth's history, when humanity was beginning to spread out throughout the Solar System. Their subsidiaries included “Altern Food Solutions, Altern Media Productions, and the federal government of the United States of America”, as well as an “Altern Civil Justice Division”; they were sufficiently prominent as to sign treaties on behalf of humanity, such as one with the Martians. Additionally, they ran the Neptunian Orbital University, attended by versions of Jenny Everywhere, Laura Drake, Neeta and Hakhe. Among many other products like the Altern SmartPets, they were responsible for all the electronics in the space station. Although not overtly malicious, the company seemed to have little respect for the privacy of their products' users. (PROSE: Extradimensional Experiments)
