Digger-291 was a Mark III Clockwork Cherub of the Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids. Though anything but unintelligent, he was never happier than when digging holes, (PROSE: The Resurrection of the Wellsians) a passion he shared with his brother Diggy-292. (PROSE: The Metafictional Meddler)

He was among the Cupids assigned to Morningstar 1. After he was tasked with digging a new swimming pool for the Governor and accidentally unearthed seven ancient, dormant Wellsians, he was recruited by Mandragora-257 as his alchemical “apprentice” in the Great Experiment. Unbeknownst to Mandragora, he had already joined the “rebellion” formed by all the Cupids in the base who wished to bring an end to the Governor's tyranny. Faking stupidity so that Mandragora wouldn't be afraid to share his secrets in front of him, he secreted one of the Wellsians away before Mandragora had counted them, and performed his own resurrection ritual in parallel to Mandragora's, succeeding at about the same time.

Accompanying Dactylopius-177, the leader of the rebellion, he and the Wellsian confronted Mandragora, Governor and their own first resurrected Wellsian, with Digger finally revealing his true colours to the “Master”. However, both parties had been wrong to think they could control the Wellsians, who soon turned on their masters; after killing the Governor, they tried to shoot Mandragora, which caused an explosion which destroyed the base. After Governor was killed and the base was destroyed, the guards and rebels forgot their differences and worked together on unlocking the three Fog Ships in the base to get back to the Cupid Homeworld. (PROSE: The Resurrection of the Wellsians)
