The purported creation of the Multiverse was an event whose sheer existence was “hotly debated”, with some holding that it had no beginning and had always existed. (PROSE: The Ghosts and the Machine)
According to one account, there originally existed a proto-multiverse, a “seething soup of quarks” which existed a the "beginning and end of everything" and was fought over by the Destroyer and the Defender. Before the Defender banished it into the Void, the Destroyer managed to damage the "pattern of everything" to such an extent that no Big Bang could take place, leaving the proto-multiverse “stillborn”. This forced the Defender to sacrifice herself for the Multiverse, as she splintered herself into an infinity of more limited beings to fill the gaps. (PROSE: Where Is Everywhere)
