Biography

Like his Third Universe counterpart, this version of the Time Lord eventually decided to run away from Gallifrey, which he deemed a dreary “world of vampires and valeyards”. Intending to go to Earth, he dressed for it and headed to the Old Workshops, intent on stealing a TARDIS. The Doctor would later make an enemy of the Great Intelligence, a disembodied splinter of Yog-Sothoth, who eventually went back in time to try to throw the Doctor's destiny off-course, luring him into stealing a Type 44 TARDIS which the Intelligence had secretly possessed instead of the proper ship.

A Junior Time Technician might have alerted him to the issue and pointed him towards the “right” TARDIS, but was knocked out by an arriving Jenny Nowhere, who intended to steal the Doctor's TARDIS and thereby appropriate some of the Doctor's metafictional significance. Exchanging a few words with Nowhere, whom he initially believed might be a regeneration of his friend Magnus until she clarified otherwise, he was addressed by her as “Doctor” and learned from her that his universe was not the real Third Universe. Not attaching any significance to which TARDIS he would steal, he made no effort to stop her from getting into the Type 44 TARDIS; Nowhere, for her part, was unaware of the Intelligence's meddling and believed it was the Type 40 which she was stealing.

After she departed, the Doctor heard the approaching footsteps of the Time Technicians assigned to guard the Workshops, Andro and Fabian, and assumed that the mysterious blonde woman had been trying to stall him. However, proving surprisingly spry for his apparent age, he hurried into the nearest available TARDIS, which turned out to be the Type 40 — thus setting him back on the “correct” path after all. As he beheld its gleaming white control room, the Doctor told himself that it was “the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen”, thanking the woman in spirit for involuntarily altering his choice.
