In one universe, Merlin was first told about the king he would one day serve, and who would be Gwenhwyfar's husband, by a version of Jenny Everywhere who had met his future self. She told the young mage, then known as simply “Ambrosius”, that she believed he would meet the king at a time when the king was as young as Ambrosius currently was. As King Arthur, he ruled from a castle in Caerleon which was not actually called Camelot as far as he was concerned, but came to be known as such due to a misunderstanding of the first verse used by the bard Taliesin in his ballads about the Knights of the Round Table's exploits: “In Caerleon, to the Castle, came a lot of strange people”. He was mentored by Merlin from a young age, and came to be married to Queen Gwenhwyfar.

At some point, he learned that Merlin's quirks included keeping extra chickens on hand because he had prophetic knowledge that someday a strange woman called Jenny Everywhere would come to “Camelot” seeking a chicken. One day, while Arthur, Gwenhwyfar and the Knights were having dinner on the Round Table, a nearly-naked Jenny appeared on top of the table, having shifted there from the Gnome Place in an emergency. She asked for Merlin, who presented her with the royal hen Bethan, whose eggs she was able to use to route the Nome King because as a fellow legendary king, Arthur's symbolic power was a match for the Nome King's.
