The Emperor was a figure central to the story of the Emperor's New Clothes, and existed as a real being in some universes, sometimes nicknamed the Naked Emperor. One version of him was the father of a shifter, Greta Överallt.

Biography

Fairy tale

Tash Spicer, who came from a fairly mundane, modern universe, was familiar with the tale of the Emperor's New Clothes, concerning an Emperor who was tricked by a group of con artists into buying clothes which they said only the most refined minds could perceive. Naturally, the Emperor could not see them, and strolled into a parade entirely naked, refusing to admit that even he could not see the garments. (COMIC: Enchanted)

In one universe, most of the story occurred as Tash Spicer knew it, but the tailors had been truthful and the magic cloth really did work as they said it did; it was, however, still quite poor judgment to wear it to the parade, as most of the crowd couldn't see the clothes any more than the Emperor, leading to events playing out much like in the tale, with a child finally saying aloud that the Emperor was naked. Also in the crowd was shifter Sven Allestädes, one of a few people to actually see the magic clothes. Impressed with their work, Allestädes later tracked down the tailors and bought several items of clothing with different magical properties from them. (COMIC: Enchanted)

Meanwhile, the Emperor himself was twisted into a spiteful, tyrannical warmonger by his “public humiliation”. Even his daughter Greta became afraid of him, running away from the empire once she discovered she had shifting powers of her own. A peasant revolt eventually occurred. The Council of Lords deposed the “mad Emperor” for his failure to contain the revolt and did their best to squash it themselves, placing themselves under the leadership of ambitious Lord Regent Tarquin and hiring Dragon-riding Argothian mercenaries. When Greta returned to her homeland with Jenny Everywhere and Jenny Anywhere in search of Sven, she discovered the new state of affairs.

After dealing with Tarquin, Greta returned to the palace dungeons for her father, transporting him to Shelterville, an interdimensional outpost. The Emperor was still angry at the revolt, and also at his daughter for failing to put him back on the throne, using “witchcraft”, and having (ironically) become a nudist on her interdimensional journeys. The two Jennies returned to the Land of the Naked Emperor, however, and brought back a young man called Hans, who turned out to be the very man who, when he was a boy, had called out the Emperor's nakedness during the fateful parade. Seeing the still-earnest Hans apologise to him for the trouble it had caused, the Emperor had a moral epiphany and took responsibility for his foolishness and pride. At Tammy Shotwell's suggestion, the former Emperor decided to stay in Shelterville, becoming its new Justice of the Peace. (COMIC: 24 Hour Comic 2019)
