Brutus was an alien from the Prime Universe who looked “rather like if someone had crossed a crocodile with a bullfrog, and then molded the result like clay into a humanoid shape”.
He was one of the last two inhabitants of a planet which had, in earlier days, been the stage of a protracted war between Brutus's species and that of the other last straggler, Lilathia. Eventually, both species got tired of their endless hostilities and left the ruined planet behind, but Brutus and Lilathia stayed behind and continued the “war” in the form of an endless neighbourly feud. Like Lilathia, Brutus owned a pan-dimensional speedster, and over time the two developed the idea of bringing their conflict to a final conclusion in the form of a Cross-Dimensional Grand Prix. However, they had to indefinitely belay this scheme for lack of a neutral party to act as a referee, and carried on feuding in the meantime. Finally, in 2019, Marksmanship-522 of the Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids arrived on their planet with instructions to romanticise the two, and instead found himself forced by Lilathia to act as the neutral arbiter. Ultimately, however, the race ended in a tie, which pleased Brutus and Lilathia, who didn't know what they'd have done with themselves without their feud to occupy them.
