In the 925th Universe, when they were girls, Jenny Over-There and her cousin Marietta Over-There watched The Little Shop of Horrors together; “[not] even the good one” but the one “with the bad paper mâché plant”. (PROSE: A Very Jenny Over-There Christmas) By another telling, the two were kinder to the film, with Marietta simply describing it as not even being “the scary one”, prompting Jenny to comment that really, neither of the films had been meant to be scary. Despite its relative unscariness, the young Marietta was very frightened of the nasal-voiced plant and had recurring nightmares about it. (PROSE: A Very Jenny Over-There Christmas (2024 reedit))

Behind the scenes

This refers to the original 1960 horror-comedy The Little Shop of Horrors, later famously adapted into an even more tongue-in-cheek musical. Unlike the musical, the movie is in the public domain. The central antagonist Audrey Junior — the “paper mâché plant” — had previously been referenced in Jenny Over-There: The Nine-Two Five Universe as a real being at an interdimensional party.
