Ventriloquist's dummy (Misadventures in the Interdimensional Black Market)
A ventriloquist's dummy was one of the animate toys created by Madame Tarsa who were up for sale at Madame Tarsa's Marvelous Dolls and Automatons, her stall in the Interdimensional Black Market. (PROSE: Misadventures in the Interdimensional Black Market) It was evidently one of her Voice-Snatching Ventriloquist’s Dolls. (PROSE: The Frost King's Treasure)
The dummy, billed as “an aid to the struggling ventriloquist” and believing itself to be one of Tarsa's “greatest creations”, had the supernatural ability to steal people's voices for its own use. In 2019, while Darius was perusing the stall, it stole his voice without consent and demanded that he buy the dummy to have it back. Darius reluctantly agreed and then immediately tried to throw it away, but the dummy insisted on following him around, stating that it could only be traded, sold or given away, not simply discarded.
This turned out to be for the best, however, when Darius and Tracker-764's funds fell short of what they needed to buy a new engine for their Fog Ship from another vendor, who was quite interested in the dummy's properties and decided to trade the engine for it, intent on reselling it at a premium at one of several other shady venues where they had dealings. With a bit more haggling, the ship-parts seller also agreed to throw CS-NA into the bargain. Darius handed over the dummy, formally transferring its ownership to the ship-parts seller, with a half-hearted wish of “Have a nice life”. (PROSE: Misadventures in the Interdimensional Black Market)
