She was in possession of a Flying Platform as well as a “magic” Shadow-Ray that transformed normal shadows into half-tangible warriors loyal to her only. She was herself shadow-like, but had a mouth and eyes, as well as normal, light-coloured hair, and being able to continue existing even in the dark, unlike her more ephemeral shadow-warriors who dissolved without lighting against which to contrast themselves.

She attacked New York one afternoon, with the Odds proving no match for her shadow-warriors, but had to retreat due to the sun setting earlier than she'd anticipated. Captain Evening managed to tag her with a tracking device, allowing the Odds to follow her to her home in the middle of the night. They cut the power to create confusion and stole the Shadow-Ray, which they used to create the Shadow Odds, shadow versions of themselves who obeyed them instead of the Queen. With their help, they defeated the shadow-warriors guarding the Queen in her sleep. She tried to flee on the Flying Platform but was stopped by Shadow-Merv, Merv the Griffin and Shadow-Captain-Evening, who delivered her into the hands of the police. After mopping up the last roaming living shadows, the Odds were left wondering quite where the Shadow Queen had come from. (COMIC: Chasing Shadows)
