Lainya Vantrik
Lainya Vantrik was an interdimensional assassin, considered among the best in the Multiverse.
There were several versions of her active on an interdimensional scale; they were in touch with one another, acting as a single business operation, although they did not appear to have the same kind of special bond as the incarnations of Jenny Everywhere or Jenny Nowhere.
Description
Physical appearance
Lainya Vantrik was a fit humanoid woman. She had dark purple hair and violet skin, and usually wore a very dark purple cloak to boot. (PROSE: Century Smith and the Time Terror)
Personality
Lainya Vantrik was professional and practical in the pursuit of her aims, not letting emotion cloud her judgment. However, she was not entirely without moral principles; she operated by a strict “code of honour” whose most prominent instruction was never to take any contract on “children” (a term she defined quite generously, once ruling that a contract on an immature 19-year-old fell afoul of her rule). She even made a habit of killing any would-be clients who tried to trick her into breaking this self-imposed rule. (PROSE: Century Smith and the Time Terror)
Powers and abilities
Vantrik was proficient in the use of most handheld weapons and travelled the Multiverse using a wristwatch-like device, not having any innate shifting powers. (PROSE: Multiversal Mischief)
Biography
Failure on Maltare
Lainya Vantrik's long-held impeccable track record of success in her assassination contracts ended some time befre April 2021, when she was contracted to kill “a guy with a stupid hat” and the Creator of the Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids on the planet Maltare, yet failed in embarrassing circumstances. (PROSE: Multiversal Mischief)
April Fools' Day, 2021
Some time later, she was contacted by an unknown employer and hired with the promise of a multiversal mission taking on “two dark specters”. To her disappointment, the employers turned out to be the Faction of the Fooling Fish, who wanted her to guard their tachyonic sailing ship while they darted around the Multiverse for April Fools' Day — and, to wit, to do so using nothing but a confetti gun and an extendable boxing glove. The “dark specters” were simply the “gloom and boredom” they metaphorically endeavoured to banish through their pranks.
As she had been paid upfront, Lainya was unable to back out, and reluctantly performed her guarding duty. As she witnessed the Fish's prank, however, she came to accept that they were fairly entertaining to watch, and began to loosen up. In the end, after the day ended (not before Lainya had received a visit from Pythagoras-858 only to let him make his way to the Fish's leaders), she declined to join the Faction but took their parting practical joke in good humour, a stark contrast to her previous attitude towards the Fish. (PROSE: Multiversal Mischief)
Hired by the Cult of Acantha
A short time later, Lainya was hired by Rubus and Sentis of the Cult of Acantha. They fixed an appointment with her at the Interdimensional Black Market, where they explained that they wanted her to assassinate not an entire individual physically, but one specific branch of her anomalous timeline. Lainya was reluctant to thus take a job outside her comfort zone, but was persuaded by the offered price of five stells paid up-front. Armed with a timeline-trimmer, she tracked down the target, Briar, to the 819th Universe. However, while about to do the deed, she realised that Briar was only nineteen years old. Outraged, she attempted to kill Rubus, though he escaped with Sentis through a shadow-pathway. She left, keeping her five stells for her trouble, since Rubus and Sentis had dropped them in their escape (despite Lainya's attempt to contemptuously pay them back).
