One of the guards of the Guardroom of the Strange and Wonderful House helped a visitor get properly outfitted to visit the Conservatory. He was a burly man, “built like a bull” with a very thick neck; he had a friendly disposition (in a “quiet, gruff kind of way”) but was visibly “prepared for violence and skilled in its usage”.
