An Athenaeum was a library-like room that was differentiated from a library by being a more social space.
The Athenaeum within the Strange and Wonderful House was sentient. It described itself as the place where eternity came from, where eternity will one day return”, and claimed to exist “outside the binds of time,/In the innermost area of every house.”.
