Builder (On Earth)
Shortly after her arrival on Earth in one universe, the Magician from Mars saved a builder who, in despair, had jumped off the Manhattan Bridge. After preventing him from hitting the water, keeping him suspended in mid-air, she took him aboard an air-taxi where she got him to explain his troubles to her.
A builder, he had unwittingly signed a contract with a crooked politician and businessman whose small print would give him ownership of the builder's latest skyscraper unless it was completed by an unreasonable deadline. This building was one the builder had invested all his savings into building himself, and if he lost it without recompense he would face ruin, hence his desperation. After he gave her his blueprints, the Magician was able to bring the completed building into existence in an instant; she then smacked around the crooked businessman when he tried to protest and get ownership of the building anyway. Beyond grateful, the builder shared with the Magician his suspicion that she “must have been put on Earth for a reason”, which comforted her in her plan of becoming a hero on a full-time basis.
