Mailbag-431 was a Mark V Clockwork Cherub and member of the Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids. Prior to his death, he served as Co-Prefect of the Department of Postal Services with Philatel-426. In this job, he was as single-minded and callous as Philatel, and seemingly shared his stamp-collecting hobby.

However, by April 2019, (PROSE: Acquaintanceship-982 and the Missing Mail Mystery) Mailbag had become one of the few Cupids ever to die, in unclear circumstances. A “document declaring him” so was signed by Philatel himself as well as the Council, the Supreme Quaestor, the Parliament, and the Cupid Prime. Philatel was Mailbag's “only mourner”. By December 2019, he still hadn't painted out Mailbag's name from above the door to the Prefect's office, for which reasons some young Cupids sometimes called Philatel “Mailbag”; he never corrected them.

The real Mailbag's soul, meanwhile, wound up in the Spirit Realm. The illegitimate masters of the Realm passed judgement upon him, condemning him to wear chains made of “mail-boxes, letters, stamp albums, and heavy mail sacks made of burlap”. On December 25th, 2019, as the Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids celebrated Christmas for the first time, Mailbag's ghost managed to manifest in Philatel-426's house in the classic Jacob Marley fashion as the Three Spirits enacted a Christmas Carol scenario for Philatel, with Mailbag showing him what had become of him, and might become of Philatel too if he were to die without having changed his ways. At the conclusion of the ensuing misadventures, Philatel decided to finally pick a new Co-Prefect, in the person of Lord Thymon. (PROSE: A Copper-Colored Christmas Carol)
