A Matter of Image was a two-page interlude comic in the Kaza’s Mate, Gwenna webcomic, released between the second full-length story, COMIC: Ruthless Ro-Man, and the third, The Danger, The Diamond, and the Dowager. It was described by Jay Epps as “a little experiment in both art style and computer coloring” more than anything else, and featured Gwenna looking back on her life choices.

Plot

On a day out in the Naked Jungle, Gwenna muses that it must currently be fashion week in Paris, prompting her to reflect on how much her life has changed. However, she doesn't miss a thing.

Continuity

  • Gwenna's backstory as a socialite, first mentioned in COMIC: The Serpent Sorceress, is described in somewhat greater detail, with her reflecting that in the old days she would have attended fashion week in Paris and “been sitting in the front show of the Hervé Vallois runway”. She further recalls how she took an anthropology course “on a whim”, and ended up meeting Kaza because she joined an expedition set up by her professor who had “[gotten] word of a real-life ape-man”.
  • Gwenna reflects that “it's been six months since [she] even put on clothes at all”. Since she did in fact do so in the previous full-length story COMIC: Ruthless Ro-Man, this establishes a considerable time-skip since the events of that story, accounting for the real-world release dates of Ruthless Ro-Man and the next full-length story COMIC: The Danger, The Diamond, and the Dowager and thereby ensuring the present-day of the series did not slip too far into the past.
  • Gwenna recalls having fought “poachers, smugglers, mad cultists, super-villains and space aliens”. Mad cultists appeared in COMIC: The Serpent Sorceress and space aliens in COMIC: Ruthless Ro-Man.
