Cover of the comic.

The first issue of Fox Features Syndicate's Jo-Jo Comics to bear the title of Jo-Jo Congo King was thus numbered as Jo-Jo Congo King #7 due to following on from the prior six issues of Jo-Jo Comics which had operated as a funny-animals book instead of a superhero comic. Because it was followed by another Issue #7 before the numbering got unstuck with a proper Issue #8, this first issue is usually known in archival sources as Issue #7A.

Its title story introduced Jo-Jo the Congo King as well as Gwenna; the latter, in rebooted form, would later enter the public domain and become one of the protagonists of the Jenny Everywhere-adjacent webcomic Kaza's Mate, Gwenna. This was followed by a second Jo-Jo story, The Weird Adventure of the Bloodthirsty Jungle Plant, which replaced Gwenna with the nigh-identical Geesha, then by a text story entitled Be Yourself, Daisybelle!, and then by two superhero stories featuring the last outings of two preexisting superhero characters imported from earlier Fox books, “Bronze Man” and “the Purple Tigress”.
