Canals of Mars

Canals existed on some versions of Mars.

In the 97th Cosmos, the “mighty canals” of Wellsia were used to transport the blood the Wellsians drank in huge quantities across the planet.

Behind the scenes

Originally an inaccurate scientific theory based on early telescope observation of the planet, the idea that Mars's surface is covered in “canals" visible from space has remained a trope of fiction relating to Martians in fiction.
