In the 97th Cosmos, on their home planet, the octopoid Wellsians fed primarily on a species of “humanoid cattle”. They were “fragile creatures”, unable to survive the trip from Mars to Earth. This forced the Wellsians to try and feed on human blood instead during their invasion of Earth, which proved their undoing, as they had failed to anticipate that human blood was tainted with various germs and viruses, unlike the “distilled delicacy” that was the blood of the Martian cattle. Behind the scenes
The humanoid “cattle” of the octopoid Martians are mentioned in H. G. Wells's original The War of the Worlds, making them a public-domain concept.
