In many universes, there existed a Time Vortex which time machines physically crossed as part of the process of time travel.

When they visited the Interdimensional Tavern in 2019, the Department of Documentation met time travellers from the 97th Cosmos and the Prime Universe, who'd both ended up in the Void after their machines fell through dimensional warps in their respective worlds' Time Vortices.
