They were “fragile creatures”, unable to survive the trip from [[Mars]] to [[Earth#In the 97th Comsos|Earth]]. This forced the Wellsians to try and feed on human blood instead during their invasion of Earth, which proved their undoing, as they had failed to anticipate that human blood was tainted with various germs and viruses, unlike the “distilled delicacy” that was the blood of the Martian cattle.
