Jenny Everywhere and the Dark Bishop (comic story)

From Jenny Everywhere Wiki

Jenny Everywhere and the Dark Bishop was a comic story written and drawn by Matt Sutton. It was released in the format of a standard (digital) comic book issue, which bore the cover title of The Case of the Dark Bishop. The Issuu upload itself had a third variation of the title, Jenny EveryWhere and the Case of the Dark Bishop.

The story was notable for using a unique Jenny Everywhere Logo. It also, perhaps uniquely, starred a version of Jenny Everywhere who travelled throughout the Multiverse but believed herself to actually be unique.

Plot

Jenny Everywhere, investigating a hole in fabric of a universe, arrives with her robot companion Click to discover that the locals, aliens called the Aspergots, have been enslaved by a dark figure they call the Bishop, assisted by his Shock-Staff-wielding “Red Guards”. Coming face-to-face with them, Jenny recognises the Red Guards as Rinok mercenaries and defeats one by using the Electro-Neutralizer to make its Shock-Staff backfire.

Worldbuilding

Jenny

  • The story's Jenny describes herself as a Child of the Nexus (also “Custodian”, “Slider” or “Shifter”), one of a small number of beings born with dimensional abilities and tasked with repairing tears in the barriers between the universes of the Multiverse. She appears not to be aware of there being others of herself, as she notes that Children of the Nexus like herself are “each as unique as the universe that we come from”. She appears to be white, with short, dark brown hair, and wears a short-sleeved red T-shirt adorned with a yellow star, a grayish-blue scarf, brown gloves and trousers, and yellow shoes. Her goggles are golden.

Universes

  • This story takes place in a universe to which the Aspergots are native.
  • Jenny mentions the existence of a universe where Earth is populated by giant ants, and another where it is populated by “intelligent puppies”.
  • Jenny carries a pocket dimension (whose entrance resembles an ordinary bag) in which she stashes her equipment.

Behind the scenes

Background

The description of the story's Issuu upload included the plot summary “Jenny Everywhere investigates a hole in the universe and discovers a nefarious plot to enslave the Aspergots”. It includes details not present in the actual completed six-page comic, but would likely have been included in the further installments that never materialised.
