More actions
One incarnation of Jenny Everywhere was known as Cha Ni, and, in her later life, as the Oracle. She lived into old age, and became an oracle, living in the Temple of the Oracle in one universe, acting as an adviser to younger versions of herself.
Description
Physical appearance
As the elderly oracle, Cha Ni appeared as a woman “about [Jenny's] height, with long silver hair”, wearing “a layered white robe and, of course, a long stole and a blindfold over her eyes”. Her resemblance to a normal Jenny Everywhere was stronger when she smiled or laughed. (PROSE: Paying It Forward)
Powers & abilities
Cha Ni had the ability to foretell the future, “remembering” it as easily as the past. She said that she had such an understanding of the deeper nature of reality that she was “close to being one of the big sisters”, though she was reluctant to leave the universes. (PROSE: Paying It Forward)
Personality
Despite her power and wisdom, Cha Ni retained a playful, mischievous side. She liked children and was unwilling to leave her duties and join the big sisters until Sophie Everytime grew up. She was apparently fond of a particular kind of tea. (PROSE: How Jenny First Met…)
Biography
Though “retired” from adventuring herself, Cha Ni often received visits from other, younger incarnations of the Shifter, who sought advice from her. (PROSE: Paying It Forward) She also sometimes visited the Restaurant, being present there when one Jenny took her boyfriend there to introduce him to her multidimensional nature. (PROSE: Second Date) A number of monks resided with her in the Temple. (PROSE: How Jenny First Met…)
On one occasion, the Parallax Universe's Jenny visited the Temple of the Oracle for the first time. After complimenting her on her past achievement, Cha Ni gave her younger counterpart a list of other Jennies who may need active help, including Janni, She Who Walks In Every Place, Genie Everywhere, Genevieve, Princess of Everywhere, the Jenny Everywhere of Right-On By The Sea, and a Jenny who had called for many versions of herself to come to Elysium Park in one universe in order to intimidate a sandy-haired man who'd crossed her in some way. (PROSE: Paying It Forward)
Her visitors also included Sophie Everytime, who once remarked that Cha Ni “[felt] like [her] mum but talk[ed] like [her] dad”. After they met for the “first” time, though they each already knew the other through glimpses of the future, the two bonded over being among those privileged beings who remembered things in more interesting orders than just backwards.
