Barbelith

Barbelith
From Jenny Everywhere Wiki

According to one account, Jenny Everywhere's true name was Jennifer Barbelith. (PROSE: Wanted for Questioning) In a number of realities, her name was instead Jenny Corwin, but she was raised on the interdimensional Island of Barbelo. (PROSE: The Hermetic Garbage of Jenny Everywhere)

An incarnation of Jenny Everywhere stands in front of a bar named after “Barbelith”, holding up a drink purchased there. (PROSE: Barbelith Baristas)

In a universe where Jenny was a fictional character, “Barbelith” was the name of the Internet forum where she was created. It was taken from the comic series The Invisibles. (PROSE: SCP-JEv)

The Barbelith Baristas was a bar in the Bohemian District of Interstitial City. One tourist brochure noted that “many travellers, tourists, and general vagabonds and vagrants, will eventually find themselves at the Barbelith Baristas”. One candid photograph of the outside of the building captured a scene featuring versions of Jenny Everywhere, Neeta and Octobriana. (PROSE: Barbelith Baristas)

Behind the scenes

The term “Barbelith” was coined by Grant Morrison as a recurring element of their The Invisibles comic series. According to them, the name first came to them in a dream as the name of an alternative dimension or higher plane of existence; in their comics, the name instead refers to a mysterious, sentient red sphere existing on the dark side of the Moon which exists to help human beings connect to a higher, more enlightened plane of reality. What relationship may exist between Jenny's character and Morrison's fictional Barbelith (such as the Barbelith orb itself being an incarnation of Jenny in some way) has never been clarified.

The term's primary connection to Jenny Everywhere, however, is a behind-the-scenes one, as it was chosen as the name of the now-defunct Barbelith forums. Perused by many fans of Morrison's work, the “Barbelith Underground” community was the original context of the creation of Jenny Everywhere as a fictional character. The first comic stories to feature the character were created and posted on the website, and are often referred to as “the Barbelith Stories” in the Jenny Everywhere fandom.
