The Weekly Comet was a tabloid newspaper in one universe. While appearing to be a typical, sleazy supermarket newspaper, it was, in reality, a cover for an organization dedicated to protecting supernatural entities by publishing absurd articles about them to convince the public that they were not worth speculating upon (alongside a slew of other, even more ridiculous articles based on nothing at all to further cover their tracks).

The organization was headed by Millard Detweiler, who cared about the organization's mission and refused to sell out to large publishing corporation U.S. Media, owner of every other tabloid paper in the country. Other employees included, among others, journalists Foster Hearst and Max Murdock, consultant (and sasquatch) Phil, and layout artist Andrea Campos.
