Abúi was a Fairy who had access to interdimensional travel. She once ended up stranded in the universe of Loxie Smith and Zoot Jensen.
Description
Physical appearance
Abúi had long and extremely bright red hair. Her pale skin was covered in a complex web of blue tattoos. As a Fairy, Abúi's natural form was a miniature humanoid, about the size of a frisbee. However, she had the ability to grow to human size if she needed to interact with humans for a while, and was shown to be quite tall when in human form.
She was, on the other hand, unable to conceal other fairy traits of hers, including her large, pointy, horizontally-angled ears, her dragonfly-like wings, and her sharp teeth — except by crude physical means like binding her wings behind her back and wearing clothing over them. (COMIC: Incognito)
Personality
Abúi was fairly skilled at deception, but undercut by her temper; she was quick to get frustrated when experiencing unexpected difficulties in the course of a mission.
Biography
First visit to Koala Bay
At some point, Abúi was teleported out of her home dimension by the Gnomian Transporters. Landing in a more mundane universe near the Koala Bay Bares Naturist Resort, she was immediately hit by a frisbee which knocked her to the ground, damaging her equipment (including her Emergency Cabal Neutraliser and her Gnomometer as well as a crystal ball she could previously use to contact the Gnomian Transporter.
Realising that she was in a camp of humans, Abúi grew to human size and crudely hid her wings and pointy ears, attempting to pose as a new arrival called “Abby” while she found her bearings. However, one of the permanent residents, young Zinni Lee, had caught a glimpse of Abúi's true form shortly after her arrival, and dedicated herself to convincing her mother that she was indeed a Fairy.
She eventually succeeded. Abúi, forced to drop her disguise, went to meet the owners and operators of the Resort, Loxie Smith and Zoot Jensen. Having recently met Jenny Everywhere, Loxie and Zoot took the revelation surprisingly well, and decided to wait until Jenny came around, planning to ask her to help bring Abúi back home. In the meantime, Abúi agreed to stick around Koala Bay and try to get used to this new world and time. (COMIC: Incognito)
She did not have to wait long. Mungo knew another shifter, Sven Allestädes, who was happy to give her a lift home. Sven accidentally shifted Abúi and Tash Spicer into the wrong universe, where the three of them had to deal with an unexpected local reaction to Sven’s clothes. Once that was sorted out, Sven took Tash back to Koala Bay while Abúi remained to seek a way home from this more magically developed world, hoping the nymph Sprite would be of help. With Aggie and Scale
Growing into an experience inter-dimensional traveller, Abúi began travelling with Aggie and Scale. The three once ended up in Dimension Y, where they were menaced by a huge Globtroll. However, they crossed paths with Jenny Everywhere, who was on a bicycle tour of the Outer Realms. She helped them deal with the Globtroll by working together, with Abúi and Aggie serving as distractions while Scale created a tripwire and Jenny used her shifting powers to create a “pit trap” in which the Globtroll fell once it had duly tripped.
Later, Aggie, Scale and Abúi were invited to Kokotomo Island. While strolling on the beach, they bumped into Jenny again, as well as Captain Evening and Centennia. Later, after the Captain and his superhero team had gone home, Abúi was seen looking on, while putting on some suntan lotion, as Jenny and Centennia danced with Mr Montibar himself. Return to Koala Bay
Long after she'd managed to come home, Abúi returned to Koala Bay Bares Naturist Resort on purpose with a gaggle of her faerie friends from the second fantasy world she'd visited early on in her dimension-travelling career: Gog, Mim, Sprite, Jai-Jai and Puddle the Troll. Coincidentally, Jenny Everywhere had also returned to the Resort that very same day. This belied Jenny's claim that she liked Koala Bay for being “the most peaceful place in the universe”, but Loxie reflected that this didn't mean it wasn't the nicest place in the universe, occasional mayhem and all. (COMIC: The Nicest Place in the Universe)
Later travels
Abúi was present in Shelterville alongside Adrienne when the Emperor moved there. She attended the ceremony of his swearing-in as Shelterville's new Justice of the Peace. (COMIC: 24 Hour Comic 2019)
Behind the scenes
Origins
Abúi originated as a secondary character in Reinder Dijkhuis's webcomic Rogues of Clwyd-Rhan. Her part in its plot ended when she became stranded outside her own universe. The diptych formed by Incognito and Enchanted directly tied into these events. Abúi was subsequently spun off into her own webcomic, Abúi's Travels, focusing on Abúi's continuing journey through the Multiverse.
