The Society of the Rhyming Dove was a secret society made up of poets who dressed up as doves, native to the Prime Universe.

Nature

They were not dimensionally-active or otherwise scientifically-advanced, but seemed to genuinely perceive their lives in verse; other metafictional beings could affect the versified narration the Rhyming Doves inhabited, causing them great distress. (PROSE: Multiversal Mischief) At any rate, they were able to communicate flawlessly in verse, and their instinct when reporting or writing down other people's prose was to turn it into verse unless they made a conscious effort not to. Some speculated that their ease with versification was a magical effect, possibly related to an Atlantean artefact, although others believed it was simply mental discipline, perhaps aided by brainwashing technology. (PROSE: The Society of the Rhyming Dove)

The Society were staunch allies of the Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids. (PROSE: The Strangely-Colored Secret Societies) Members of the Society sometimes wore full-body dove costumes, but were usually content to dress in completely white outfits and carry elaborate, ostentatious quills. (PROSE: The Society of the Rhyming Dove)

History

The Society of the Rhyming Dove was one of the many Strangely-Colored Secret Societies formed as a result of the First Horde laying off large numbers of its personnel and imperfectly wiping their minds of their time as Horde operatives, giving them a subconscious itch to form new, similar societies that would continue to seek out Atlantean artefacts. (PROSE: The Strangely-Colored Secret Societies)

In 1986, the Society made contact with the Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids, somehow sending multiple mysterious rhyming messages to Philatel-426 inviting the Cupids to to a location on the Prime Earth. The Scarlet Wings were sent out to investigate, as the Cupids feared it might be a trap, but the Society turned out to merely be trying to build friendly relations with other Strangely-Colored Secret Societies. An alliance was formed between the two groups, with the Society helping the Crew with “some of its most enduring poems” while the Cupids occasionally alerted the Rhyming Doves when they found Atlantean artefacts. (PROSE: The Society of the Rhyming Dove)

The Society was friendly with another eccentric organisation, the Ennead of the Eigengrau Easter Eggs. In April 2021, they planned to invite the Eggs round for a feast. Three days before, however, on April the 1st, they received a gag “present” from the Faction of the Fooling Fish: a box containing the talking dog Astro, who disturbed the balance of their verses, although they eventually befriended him before sending for a member of the Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids to take Astro home. (PROSE: Multiversal Mischief)
