Leprechauns were diminutive humanoids featured in Irish folklore, who had significant magical powers.
Nature
In Dimension 77, as in other universes, Leprechauns were notorious as talented shoemakers; they “were not necessarily cobblers by profession, although there were some who were”, but tended to get a talent for it regardless because they were “both very long-lived and very prone to wearing out their shoes by excessive running about”, and thus “preferred to mend their own shoes with their own two hands — and a bit of magic”; hence, over the centuries of their supernaturally-long lives. Additionally, if they found themselves in somebody else's debt, they were bound to grant them three wishes, but no two of those wishes could be the same. (PROSE: The Interlude of Jenny Everywhere)
History
In one universe, superheroine Wonderella was pranked by Leprechauns every Saint Patrick’s Day. On one occasion, one Leprechaun goaded her and Wonderita into chasing him with promises of gold, then teleported both women to another reality instead. (COMIC: Wonderella Drops by the Jungle)
In Dimension 77, Leprechauns existed, as well as many other fae creatures like Brownies. In 1876, the Jenny Everywhere of another universe met the Lurigadawne of Tipperary, then 874 years old, and saved his life. She used the first of her wishes to get him to make her a supernaturally good pair of shoes, and kept the other two in reserve. Later, having lost of the shoes and not knowing about the rule that no two of the three wishes could be the same, she returned to Dimension 77 in the hope of getting the Lurigadawne to make her a new pair. She discovered that her old friend had joined the Secret League of the Orange-Bearded Gnomes so that the laws of magic would recognise him as a Gnome and thus make him immune to all injuries save egg-related ones. This was put to the test when he was stabbed by the Mad Marquess in a duel. Beginning to heal almost immediately, the Lurigadawne informed the Marquess that his sword might retain magical properties from having imbibed Leprechaun blood.
