Prisms made in specific ways from certain minerals could have properties in dimensional engineering, especially related to Rifts.

Nature

One kind of Prism could be used to trap and safely contain Rifts. Another kind could be used as part of a ritual to stabilise an entire dimension threatened by an epidemic of Rifts. These Prisms were easier to make than the former kind, but four were needed to complete the ritual, and both pairs had to be slotted at opposite ends of the area of use at exactly the same time for the ritual to take effect. As such, they were useless to a lone operator. (PROSE: The Mad Cupid of the Euclidean Plane)

History

During the Rifts Crisis, after falling through a Rift, one old man became trapped in a small dimension that seemed to have become an epicentre of Rifts. There, he found an abandoned cabin mysteriously containing many books on dimensional science. They taught him how to create Prisms of both types using the naturally-occurring minerals found in the area. He trapped many Rifts in Prisms, though not enough to make a dent in the epidemic. He also created the first of the four Prisms that would be needed to stabilise the dimension. After Tracker-764 arrived through a Rift, he convinced the Cupid to help, and they worked for four weeks to create the three additional Prisms, ultimately successfully completing the ritual just in the nick of time.
