Shoggoth's Old Peculiar was one of the drinks served at the Barbelith Baristas in the Bohemian District of Interstitial City. (PROSE: Barbelith Baristas)

Behind the scenes

Most of the drinks served at the Barbelith Baristas are references to copyrighted fictional beverages from other franchises. Shoggoth's Old Peculiar, a brown ale with a curiously goat-like tale, was the titular feature of Neil Gaiman's 1998 H. P. Lovecraft-inspired short story Shoggoth's Old Peculiar, with Shoggoths being entities from the Lovecraftian mythos not normally inclined to the brewing of human-drinkable beverages, however old and peculiar. They debuted in At the Mountains of Madness and are now in the public domain.
