Thomas Jerome Newton is the titular character of the 1963 novel The Man Who Fell to Earth and its more famous 1976 theatrical adaption, where he was portrayed by David Bowie. Newton is an extraterrestrial from the planet Anthea who covertly becomes a businessman on Earth to try and amass a large enough fortune to have the means to return to his own planet and help his dying species, but instead becomes taken in by alcoholism and other human vices, resulting in a downward spiral.
