In the Land of Oz of one universe visited by Acquaintanceship-982 of the Crew of the Copper-Colored Cupids, by the time of the visit in question, much of the Emerald City was indeed green and resplendent, as was the fashion of its inhabitants. The Guardian of the Gates still insisted on making all visitors to the city wear green-tinted goggles, but this was no longer to ensure that they believed it was wholly made of the things; instead, they were a protection from the extreme brightness.
