Tyse was a “protector” of Ecord, and, befitting that world's peculiar narrative gravity, a clichéd barbarian hero. He shared an adventure (and a few intimate moments) with Jenny Everywhere during her adventure in Ecord.

Description

Physical appearance

Tyse was a muscular barbarian with long red hair. He wore a loin-cloth and “iron spiraled helm”. (PROSE: Jenny Everywhere and the Eye of Argon)

Biography

As a protector of Ecord, Tyse was sworn to slay the monstrous giant rats sent by the Shamen of Argon to plague the land. He once chased one down a lonely road, only to find that it had already been slain by a mysterious traveller who introduced herself as Jenny Everywhere. After he explained his quest to her, they agreed to join forces, with her riding with him to the Temple of Argon to confront the Shamen themselves. On the way, they found their conversation becoming increasingly flirtatious, and they ended up stopping by a riverbank for a short “dalliance”.

Eventually they made their way to the Temple, and, within, to a circular chamber where the Shamen were gathered around a deep pit with their High Priest. After Jenny and Tyse fought off a bevy of giant rats sicced on them by the Shamen, Jenny directed Tyse to keep the lesser Shamen at bay while she confronted the High Priest, who was trying to summon a demonic entity. Ultimately, Jenny killed the creature but, in the same instant, found herself shifting back home, without getting to say goodbye to Tyse. (PROSE: Jenny Everywhere and the Eye of Argon)

Behind the scenes

Tyse is physically similar to Grignr, the protagonist of the original Eye of Argon novella. Scott Sanford specified in his author's notes for PROSE: Jenny Everywhere and the Eye of Argon that Tyse was named after Jim Theis, the author of The Eye of Argon.
