Snarks were among the legendary or “fictional” creatures kept in the Zoo of the Strange and Wonderful House, alongside Boojums. It was reportedly hard to tell one from the other. (PROSE: Our Strange and Wonderful House: The Zoo)
Behind the scenes
Snarks originated in Lewis Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark. Boojums are creatures easily mistaken for ordinary Snarks, but which are much more dangerous, having the capacity to make someone vanish from existence completely in an instant. Carroll's text is unclear on whether a Boojum is a variety of Snark, or a distinct but outwardly similar-looking creature.
